1.
Officials must realize
that they represent not only themselves but an entire organization,
and their personal conduct on the floor should be above reproach.
2.
Members must notify the assigning
Secretary of dates they cannot work at the beginning of
the season. They must also notify the assigning secretary
immediately of unexpected closed dates after the season starts.
3.
Execute and honor
all assignments. Be on time for all contests.
4.
Make thorough
preparations, physically and mentally, for each season and every
assigned contest.
5.
Present a clean
and professional image in terms of personal appearance and uniform, and
provide a positive role model in terms of personal habits, language,
and conduct. Use of tobacco or alcohol within sight of players and
spectators and the use of
alcohol anytime before a contest on the day of the contest is not
acceptable.
6.
Cultivate
professional relationships with partners, players, coaches,
administrators, and spectators. Refrain from comment to the media.
7.
Do not criticize
or discuss the work of other officials at any time, even as a
spectator. Uniforms should be
clean, pressed, and shoes polished. Both officials should be dressed
the same.
9.
Never exhibit
emotions or argue with participants and coaches when enforcing
rules. Maintain self-control at all times.
10.
Make clear signals
and concise rulings and instructions to the scorers, timers and
teams. Use only those signals which have been authorized by the NFHS and
the WIAA.
11.
Admit and correct
errors, hold to correct but unpopular decisions, and
support the decisions of other officials.
12.
Recruit, encourage
and assist new officials.
